According to the Verge, WhatsApp is cooking up its latest feature, a personalized AI avatar generator powered by Meta’s cutting-edge Llama 3 AI model to allow you to transform yourself into a digital avatar that can explore anything.

Currently in development and discovered in the WhatsApp Beta for Android (version 2.24.14.7), this feature uses a combination of user-provided images, text prompts, and Meta's AI Llama 3 model to generate these images of yourself in any imagined setting.

To use the feature, all you have to do is provide a few photos and some text prompts, and WhatsApp creates a digital version of you that can be fixed in various whimsical settings. Whether it's a serene nature backdrop or a futuristic cityscape, your avatar can be wherever your imagination takes it.

All you have to do is type "Imagine me" followed by the prompt you wish to execute, or by typing “@Meta AI imagine me...” in any WhatsApp conversation.

For instance, if you want to generate an image of yourself in the sun, all you have to do is type in the Meta AI chatbot "Imagine me sitting in the sun." This should generate an image close enough of you sitting in the sun.

WhatsApp also ensures privacy with this feature, ensuring that all the reference images you upload are kept secure, and you can delete them anytime from the Meta AI settings, giving you full control over your data.

While there’s no official release date yet, the rollout will likely be gradual, focusing first on WhatsApp’s U.S. users. But given WhatsApp’s track record and the steady improvements in their AI offerings, it’s safe to say that this feature will soon be making waves across the globe.

Looking ahead, WhatsApp might expand these avatars' functionalities even further for its nearly three billion active users per data from Statista. Think of avatars that can join you in video calls or even more advanced customization options that reflect your personality and style.
