Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 25 (WWDC25) finally has an official date, which means we can all start preparing for what Apple has been working on over the past year.

Following its blueprint from WWDC24, this year's event will be online and focused heavily on software. Hardware updates will likely come closer to the Apple Event in September.

But there's no need to look too far into the future when we still have so much right in front of us. From rumors of a completely redesigned iOS 19 to potential updates on the Apple Intelligence rollout, here's a rundown of what to expect from Apple's WWDC 25 event and how you can watch it.

WWDC24: Here are the latest features on the visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS
If you’re keen to learn about the key updates to the visionOS, watchOS, tvOS, then this article is for you.

What To Expect

A Massive Redesign for iOS 19

One of the most anticipated software updates in recent years, iOS 19 is rumored to bring a major design shift, potentially moving closer to VisionOS aesthetics.

  • Design: Expect new icons, enhanced customization, and a more cohesive experience across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Leaks suggest a more glass-like interface, with translucent menus and even a pass-through mode that could display what’s behind the device instead of a traditional wallpaper.
  • Functionality: Deeper widget integration with Focus Modes, an overhauled Camera app, and a streamlined UI for everyday tasks.
  • Surprise Features: Apple may showcase refinements to Siri and Apple Intelligence, though delays in AI integration have slowed progress.

macOS 16: A New Look for Macs?

The updates to the iOS are also expected to spill over to macOS 16 as Apple would most likely want to maintain a consistent look across its devices in its usual Apple fashion.

  • Design: A refined user interface, new customization tools, and hints of macOS moving towards a touchscreen-friendly future.
  • Naming Tradition: Apple will likely introduce another California-inspired name following macOS Sequoia.

WatchOS 12 & Apple Watch 11

WatchOS updates are typically less dramatic, but Apple Watch users might see new health-tracking capabilities such as blood pressure and glucose monitoring. Aside from the usual updates, we don't expect to hear much about the watch.

What’s Next with Apple Intelligence?

Apple Intelligence had a rocky start. Apple promised groundbreaking AI enhancements with iOS 18, but many issues surrounded its rollout. Features like Visual Intelligence, Genmoji, and an upgraded Siri have debuted, yet lawsuits over unreliable notification summaries and AI inaccuracies have cast a shadow over Apple's AI ambitions.

WWDC 2025 could serve as Apple’s chance to reset expectations and clarify its AI roadmap, offering a more refined approach to integrating intelligence across its devices.

WWDC 2025 Hardware Expectations

As mentioned before, WWDC is primarily going to be focused on software, but Apple has teased or unveiled hardware in the past. That said, we could see:

  • Mac Pro: A potential refresh, given its relevance to developers.
  • iPhone 17 Air: Rumors of a slimmer and more refined iPhone have emerged, but an official reveal may be reserved for later in the year.

How to Watch WWDC 2025

WWDC 2025 will take place from June 9 to June 13 and will be streamed live across multiple platforms:

Apple will also invite select developers and students to attend in person at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Developers in the Apple Developer Program and past Swift Student Challenge winners will have a chance to apply for an invitation.

Conclusion

With so many possible massive upgrades coming to Apple's operating system, this year's WWDC event is definitely one to keep an eye out for. I, for one, can't wait to see what the Cupertino tech giant has in store for us.
