You can now host up to 1 million attendees on your Zoom webinars

Zoom has dramatically scaled up its webinar capabilities, now supporting an impressive 1 million simultaneous viewers. This tenfold increase from its previous 100,000-viewer limit is set to transform large-scale virtual events.

The new feature offers a range of capacity tiers: 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, and 1 million viewers. To accommodate diverse needs, Zoom provides flexible pricing options, allowing organizations to pay per event, per month, or per year. This scalability makes the feature accessible to various users, from one-time event organizers to large corporations.

These enhanced webinars can run for up to 30 hours with 1,000 interactive video panellists, making them ideal for extended events like multi-day conferences or global town halls. Importantly, hosts can limit audio, video, and screen sharing to designated presenters, reducing the risk of audience disruptions and ensuring smoother large-scale events.

The timing of this upgrade is particularly significant, as it addresses the platform's previous limitations exposed by high-profile event crashes. Notably, the #WinWithBlackWomen fundraiser for US Vice President Kamala Harris on the platform crashed several times after over 200,000 viewers.

Separately, an interview between Elon Musk and Donald Trump on X also encountered several crashes due to technical issues, suggesting that this limitation isn't peculiar to Zoom.

To support these massive events, Zoom offers live assistance through its Event Services. The platform also provides customization options, allowing hosts to brand their webinars with custom wallpapers and nametags, enhancing the professional look of virtual gatherings.

Zoom's chief product officer, Smita Hashim, emphasized the transformative potential of this upgrade for large-scale engagement, according to a report from The Verge. This expansion also aligns with Zoom's broader efforts to redefine collaboration and productivity, including recent initiatives to integrate AI capabilities across its platform.

As the global webinar market is projected to reach $2176.6 million by 2025, Zoom's increased capacity is poised to position it as a leading platform for massive online gatherings. This move could potentially reshape how organizations approach digital events across various sectors, from corporate communications to entertainment and beyond.
