YouTube is Rolling Out Playables to All Users

YouTube subscribers can now engage in more fun activities on the platform, as YouTube has announced that it is rolling out a new feature called "Playables" to over 2.49 billion monthly active users globally, per data from SEO.ai.

This comes after YouTube picked a select group of users months ago to test the feature in beta before making it available for YouTube Premium subscribers last November.

Playables is a collection of free games that can be played by anyone on its platform. All you need to do is head to the main YouTube Home page, either on the desktop or the iOS and Android app, and find Playables from the Explore menu.

Currently, there are over 75 lightweight games in the collection. These games include Chess, Angry Birds, Farm Land, Color Burst, and Alien Shooter. These games, while currently free, may offer competition to the App Store’s free games, which are often downloaded by casual gamers and generate revenue via ads.

Also, free games on YouTube can serve as an avenue for ad placement as time goes by. However, Google, as of today, hasn't indicated any interest in monetizing its Playables just yet.

With the new Playables feature, YouTube now joins a list of other tech giants, such as LinkedIn and Netflix, that have taken an interest in gaming. LinkedIn recently introduced Wordle-based games to its members, and Netflix launched its cloud gaming platform and brought cloud gaming to its streaming service.
