YouTube testing new feature similar to X community notes
With YouTube introducing a feature similar to X's community notes, you can expect misinformation being tacked on the platform.
The proliferation of misinformation on social media is quite worrisome, you can hardly scroll through social media platforms without encountering misleading or false information.
To deal with this issue, platforms like X (formerly Twitter) introduced community notes to clarify misinformation in tweets, and now, YouTube is about to follow suit.
This feature was earlier announced back in June by Google and according to 9to5Google, YouTube is now expanding its testing to some beta testers in the US for the pilot program. The users in the pilot program are being asked to 'add helpful notes to videos’ to provide additional information and create a better-informed YouTube community.
This feature works almost the same as X's community note. When you find a misleading YouTube video, you can submit a note to the fact and other people who are part of the program will review the note and collectively decide on its accuracy. If it is rated as helpful by a wide range of people, the note will appear under the video.
If you're part of the program, there's an 'Add Note' button under videos where you can write and submit a note. Your name or channel will be excluded from the note, which is like an anonymous contribution. Once published, you'll get a notification.
Google has not announced when the feature will be released to the general public, but we expect it out soon.
