YouTube's 'Jump Ahead' Feature Arrives for Premium Users
The 'Jump Ahead' function uses artificial intelligence and viewer behaviour data to identify the most engaging parts of a video.
Recall that YouTube was secretly testing a feature to help you find the good parts of videos faster. Well, that feature – "Jump Ahead" – is finally rolling out to a limited number of YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States.
The new experimental feature was initially tested in March and is now accessible to Premium subscribers.
The 'Jump Ahead' function uses artificial intelligence and viewer behaviour data to identify the most engaging parts of a video and presents a "Jump Ahead" button when you double-tap to fast forward. Clicking the button allows you to quickly skip to the part of the video which most viewers find interesting.
This feature is like having a virtual friend who knows which parts of the video are most worthwhile. It can save you time by skipping over introductions, long-winded explanations, or irrelevant content.
For now, Jump Ahead is only available to a limited number of YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States. It also currently works only with English-language videos. If you're a YouTube Premium subscriber in the US, you can check if you have access to the feature by going to the settings menu of the YouTube app and looking under "Try experimental new features."
With Jump Ahead, YouTube aims to make watching videos a more streamlined and enjoyable experience.
This feature is similar to the previously available AI-Powered Answers experiment, which is also set to expire soon but might be extended. We can expect more new features to be rolled out around Google I/O 2024 in a week.
